    Handball passing drills

Passing drills that build timing, vision and clean hands on the move — from three-line passing to feeding the pivot under pressure.

    Three-line passing on the move

Clean catching and passing at speed across the width of the court.

    AgeU10+Players6–15Time8–12 minIntensityMedium

    Set-up

Three lines of players spread across the court width, one ball to start.

    How it runs

    1. The group jogs down the court passing the ball across the three lines in sequence.
    2. The player passes and then follows their pass to the next line (or the outside line).
    3. Add a second ball once the timing is clean.
    4. Finish with a shot on goal at the end of each length.

    Coaching points

    • Give a target hand and catch with both hands, ready to pass again.
    • Pass ahead of the runner so they never have to slow down.
    • Communicate early — call for the ball before you are open.

    Pivot feed under pressure

Delivering an accurate pass to the line player against a defender.

    AgeU13+Players5–10Time10–15 minIntensityMedium

    Set-up

A backcourt player with the ball, a pivot on the six-metre line, one defender fronting the pivot.

    How it runs

    1. The backcourt player moves the defender with a fake before feeding the pivot.
    2. The pivot works to get a hand free on the ball side; the passer hits that hand.
    3. The pivot finishes or draws a foul for a seven-metre throw.
    4. Rotate passer, pivot and defender each round.

    Coaching points

    • Pass away from the defender — bounce pass if the front is high.
    • Feed on the pivot's timing, the moment they seal the defender.
    • Eyes up: sell the shot to freeze the defender before the feed.

    Fast-break outlet passing

Turning a save or turnover into a quick, accurate outlet up the court.

    AgeU13+Players6–14Time10–12 minIntensityHigh

    Set-up

Goalkeeper with a ball, wings sprinting wide, a receiver at centre.

    How it runs

    1. On the coach's signal the wings sprint; the goalkeeper throws a long outlet to the running wing.
    2. The wing catches on the run and drives to finish, or passes to a trailing runner (second wave).
    3. Reset and alternate sides.

    Coaching points

    • Goalkeeper looks up immediately after the save — first pass beats the defence.
    • Lead the runner into space; the catch should never break stride.
    • Wings sprint the sideline to stay onside and stretch the court.
